Introduction

Upon the pressing needs of water reuse and global trends of water scarcity, the demand for the liquid filtration continues to upsurge owing to the development in the chemical, food, and beverage, and water and wastewater treatment industries.

Tortech’s non-woven Ultra-Long CNT mats, used as a membrane, provides a cost-effective and easy to handle solution. The exceptional membrane performance along with an efficient and simple control system that dramatically reduces bio-fouling (one of the major challenges in the water filtration industry) positions Tortech’s material as the next generation membrane.

Filtration Selectivity and Permeability

With the unique combination of ultra-filtration selectivity and micro-filtration permeability, Tortech’s membranes enable markedly increase the capacity of treated water per day and considerably reduce operational costs, whether for wastewater treatments, water purification or others.

The CNT membranes’ inimitable layered macro-structure, yields properties of depth filtration, allowing control of the membranes permeability depending on it’s thickness.

Enhanced anti-biofouling

Being one of the major issues in wastewater treatments and produced water treatments/processes, biofouling is a dominant factor that decreases membrane performance and involves costly backwashing, air scouring and Clean In Place (CIP) procedures to maintain desired performance. This is where the conductive nature of our CNT membranes gives the relative advantage.

Enhanced anti-biofouling – Quantitative Analysis

By applying low voltage potential to the electrically conductive CNT membrane, the biofouling formed on the CNT membrane almost entirely disappears and maintenance decreases to minimum expanses.

Safe Use

Most importantly, our CNT membrane have gone through integrity test by the top nano-safety experts in a continuous 5 week filtration on several micro- and ultra-filtration class membranes where, NO CNT release was detected and NO CNT deterioration was observed.

 

Oil-Water Separations

Our CNT membranes, being carbon based material, are hydrophobic in nature. However the use of a very simple post treatment modifies the nature of the mat to hydrophilic, allowing it to filter water with at least 1% (10,000 ppm) oil content and receive filtrated waters with oil level below 5 ppm – oil solubility in water.

Tortech Nano Fibers was founded in 2010 as a joint venture between Plasan Sasa Ltd (Israel) and Q-Flo Ltd (UK), a spin-out company from Cambridge University.

Tortech is developing and industrializing a patented process for the manufacture of ultra-long Non-Woven CNT mats for a wide range of commercial applications.
